5 ways to manage stress levels through the fertility journey

Struggling with infertility can touch many couples, and it becomes a journey they didn’t expect to go on. Due to the uncertainty, the hurt and the anguish, struggling with infertility can cause a huge amount of stress on both the man and the woman. As we know, stress can in turn decrease fertility, so it’s important to do all you can to relieve the stress you’re feeling.

I know it’s not as easy as that, and that is why I’ve put together five ways I recommend couples de-stress when they can. As overwhelming as your fertility journey may seem at times, it is important to know that it won’t last forever. There are things you can do to boost your fertility and increase your chances of conceiving (my blogs provide a lot of information on this).

Yoga is a time-honored relaxation practice that calms the mind and the body. It is good for not only your mind, but your body as well. Yoga tenses and relaxes the muscles which acts as a medium for stress relief, plus the breathing practice will help calm your anxious energy. As an additional benefit, yoga will help tone the muscles, which will be beneficial once you do become pregnant and give birth.

Meditation often gets a reputation as being a very intensive way to reduce relaxation, but it can actually be rather easy! Simple acts can create a sense of calm, like listening to your favorite music or taking a short walk outside, it’s basically a time when you focus on you. Treating yourself to moments of calmness and treating yourself to enjoy those moments special to you can help reduce your stress.

One of the best-known ways to achieve relaxation is by practicing breathing techniques to help level and balance your high-energy. Take deep breaths in and out: counting to three as you breathe in and again when you breathe out. While you are breathing, try to visualise a place or image that is peaceful to you. The perfect way to create inner-calm.

Creative outlets have been proven to help humans relax as you focus on creativity. Why not try knitting, or crocheting, even painting? Again, it’s finding special moments for you to be you and focus on something other than your fertility journey.

Take yourself away from your usual surroundings, and go somewhere new with fabulous views, and sunshine. Have a few days where someone else cooks for you, someone else takes on the stress of everyday life and you focus on balancing your vibrations.

If the thought of a retreat has made you feel excited, then I invite you to come away with me to either Tuscany or Dubai this autumn! It’s a retreat of yoga, relaxation, mindfulness and balanced healthy food surrounded by supportive, creative, strong women to help build you up. Email me on if you’d like more information. I myself will be there, teaching yoga and offering my support and knowledge. I hope to see you there.
